Hi all,

Hi all,

hope everything is good. I have quitted the tech industry back in August because despite all the energy, pro activity, willing to take on additional projects to showcase my leadership potential… I have always been kept stagnating and denied every possibility to move upward. Every time I asked specifically to be developed for people leadership I got rerouted to technical expertise instead. Every time I attempted to network I was told that I ruffled some feathers. I had a senior director as a mentor but he was extremely passive and never opened any door for me. I eventually come back to hospitality and finally obtained my first team leader position at 37. I love and feel energised much more by developing people and by leading rather than by technical expertise which instead completely switches me off and I hate and feel no purpose on it. I am an AuDHD queer woman. How could I avoid that a similar scenario will repeat in hospitality and I can then climb in peace up to Area Manager and why I was constantly rerouted to technical expertise while in corporate penalising a lot my leadership and people skills development?

Hello and congratulations on the Team Lead position!

Unfortunately, our expertise has a way of coming to the forefront in a job regardless of what that job is. One way to avoid be routed back to things you don't want to do (regardless of how you might be at them) is defer people to the person/team that now handles this type of work.

You could say something like, "I appreciate that you have confidence in my technical knowledge, but I'm not the person who handles this directly. You'll need to contact..." and then give them the info for who to contact.

As far as your Leadership & People Skill development, you can always take courses online to keep this sharp. Sites like Coursera and even resources in here are great for that.

    All the best...

If you’re autistic you may have trouble reading some of the social cues happening around you. I would ask for honest feedback and explain bc you’re autistic that you prefer direct communication. A lot of people hint at things bc they try to be polite then it goes over your head.

Please don’t take offense but I think that proof reading and checking it with a grammar tool can help. Your verb tenses need to be checked. All the best.
