Does anyone find this odd - my manager’s boss who holds a VP role in my company asked for the license number and birth date of all employees that use their personal vehicles for work.

As someone in sales that uses my vehicle for work, I initially had my driving record checked by HR as part of the application process which makes sense. It just seems odd that they are asking for birthdates in addition to license numbers out of the blue and without explanation and that the request is coming from a senior VP rather than HR that should have that information already, especially employee birth dates. Is this a red flag?

Did you ask why? Start there, if you haven't.

I asked my manager (Director level) - she said well (her boss) “is asking us to compile this list of everyone that drives license numbers and birthdates” and then demonstrated to me taking out her license and giggling that she can’t remember her birthdate. So she didn’t ask why this is needed. So, yes, I asked and wasn’t really given an answer.

It could be for business automobile insurance purposes, but it's definitely worth asking.

The request is coming from my manager and said the VP is “compiling a spreadsheet with that information “. and to email her with info requested. It is who is asking and the method it is being provided that seems off. If HR is asking as some of us drive personal vehicles for work, that would make more sense.

My Office has about 20-30. We are essentially a branch office of a larger company in another state. Our HR department is also outside.

Instinct makes me think this is phishing. Reach out to HR to determine why the VP is requesting this information. This is PII.

It's insurance related question and yes, I comply by giving a copy of my insurance and registration
