After five years of dedicated service, I’ve reached a difficult but eye-opening point in my professional journey.
I’ve worked closely with my boss, often being told that I was instrumental in keeping the company afloat—especially during challenging times. I’ve gone above and beyond, contributing not just to operations but to the growth and stability of the business. Despite this, a recent conversation has left me disheartened.
I requested a raise—something I hadn’t done in years—and was told that the conversation wasn’t even open for discussion. The justification? That for where I’m located, I’m already “overpaid,” others in my role earn more than $15/hr while I’m paid under $4/hr. Hearing that, after everything I’ve poured into the job, has been painful and deeply disappointing.
It’s made me realize that loyalty and performance aren’t always met with fairness or appreciation. And it’s shown me that perhaps I’ve outgrown this role—especially if the person I’ve worked closest with doesn’t see my value or growth.
So, I’m choosing to take this experience as a sign: I’m now open to new opportunities. I’m looking for a role where my work is valued, fairly compensated, and where there’s room to grow. If you know of any opportunities in Virtual Assistance specifically Administration & Operations / Marketing/ Customer Support, I’d be grateful if you reached out or pointed me in the right direction.
Thank you for reading—sometimes, being undervalued becomes the clearest sign it’s time to move on.
