Will I hear back or did I mess this up?

Will I hear back or did I mess this up?

I applied to a role I'm really excited about and an internal recruiter reached out to me saying they wanted to interview me. They sent the email to me Tuesday at 3:45, and I replied back at 5:00 with my availability. I figured they would reply the next day but there was silence. Thursday I sent an email saying that I am excited about the role and asked what I could provide for us to schedule an interview. I got an auto reply that they were out of office until the following Tuesday (today) and that if there were any urgencies, to contact the person listed. I figured I would wait until today to see if they would reply to my original message. So far today, so such message has come. I have emailed to now update my availability, but I am worried that I am now coming off as too desperate/pushy. What should I do if I don't hear back by the end of the week? Should I call?

UPDATE 5/10/2024

Yesterday, after not hearing anything since that first email, I got another email from a second internal recruiting asking if I'm available for a 45 minute interview with the hiring manager (I think? This person is on the other side of the world so idk). I just signed a offer with another org, but if they don't ghost me this time I'm still going to go through with interviewing for this role as it's a dream role for me.

Maybe they had an emergency or maybe it's spam. You have reached out twice soits hard to know.

Wait until Monday and if no word, try once more then move on. Their loss.

Unfortunately this is extremely common these days. You can keep checking but I'm not sure if they've maxed out the number of candidates they can present. It's a numbers game so trust me, they have all the information they need and your contact info. If the want they will reach out.

it's not hopeless and i'd give it a bit more time.
they just got back in the office and are likely playing catch up. if you don't hear back in a few days then i'd just move on. they know where to find you if they are still looking to interview

This is the most sane and reasonable answer, thank you.

There have been countless posts on this exact scenario. These outside recruiters have mere hours to line up their quota of applicants. They work 5 or 6 openings at once per day and then it's on to the next batch.

And for anyone hired in these pretenses, I guarantee they won't last long!! Revolving door of employees.

    It’s an internal recruiter

The post said it was an internal recruiter. The post also says the recruiter was then out of office. So this whole string sounds unhinged based on assumptions and lack of reading comprehension.

You didn't mess anything up. As a previous poster mentioned, this is far too common these days. They have x number of people they have to reach out to or they're collecting resumes or the company decided to prioritize another role. Either way, it makes me really appreciate the few great recruiters I've worked with in the past. There are too many working with no regard for how this impacts human beings dealing with unemployment. Move on! The right place is just around the corner :).

Ugh! I could see if you'd waited until the next day to answer, but an hour and 15 minutes later is not long enough for them to ghost you in this kind of petulant "Too late, never mind!" way. Don't contact them anymore and move on.

  11. Lori Golden

Ugh! You added all of that meaning based on nothing but assumption, when it sounds like they simply were out of the office.

And you missed the part where the person who asked for availability was then out of the office for the next week. All these assumptions and even calling it ghosting when it was clear the person was OOO is nuts.

  13. Lori Golden

Yeah but in this case, the recruiter simply was out of office. Nothing happened. No ghosting took place. These comments definitely demonstrate why people aren't getting hired. Everyone is a loose cannon of emotion and assumptions. And yes I'm also looking in this market. But I take none of it personally and I don't make up stories about why anything takes place. I am clear I have no visibility to the company's situation and hiring process.

It's an internal recruiter and it clearly states they were then out of office. Good grief how are people missing all the context. I have to get off this page. ?

    Recruiters are human too.
And on my team we run so lean that there is zero back up support for sourcing efforts, only high-level urgencies such as offers. Unfortunately, when the TA is out of office recruitment efforts for that opportunity may have to go on temporary pause… It’s just the matter of work capacity at this point. I agree with Lori, these responses are all knee-jerk emotion and this type of frenetic energy absolutely spills over into the interviewing process if emotions are left unchecked. that’s when you know it’s time to step away from your job search, take a deep breath, understand that recruiters are humans as well with real human issues that pop up and not everything is a personal affront, a ghosting, or a reason to start bashing every TA professional.

Recruiters are human too. Internal recruiters, hustle hard, but we also are a full-time employees who have families, health conditions, or various other circumstances that can pop up unexpectedly.

This is not how internal recruitment works.

Honestly, you sound entirely deplorable as a whole and it is completely unsurprising why you may not be receiving any call backs. Talk about a walking red flag, yikes.

How is less than a week ghosting, in this day and age when everyone is working to capacity at times covering the work of 2 to 3 at a time? Good lord, You sound like an insufferable human and if you don’t think that type of negative energy doesn’t seep into your interviews, then I have a river in Egypt to sell you… Good luck with your search.
