WTF with salaries and freelance rates?

WTF with salaries and freelance rates?

I can't believe the pay for roles that are requiring 10-15 years experience! They want VP/Sr Director level work for $40 an hour. Anyone else seeing this???

I'm unfortunately seeing the same thing. Spoke with a friend about the laundry list of requirements/ tasks these jobs requests and it seems like the pay is 20-30% lower than what I saw just last year. Granted, firms may have funds for contractors, but are being really cautious with their spend due to the market uncertainty. Hang in there !!

This is what happens when the executive compensation is so unbelievably high that anyone below the C-Suite can be treated like $#(@.

I usually choose highly specialized work scopes so i can "justify " a much higher fee. Even at a Sr. VP level, things can sound/appear generic if you don't spend the time to describe it as specialized. The work doesn't necessarily change but the perception if the work does.

I am seeing the same. A few months back, I applied for a Senior IT Program Manager role. The risks related to the project were evident from the position description. This 12-month role topped out at $65 an hour for a candidate with 15+ years of experience, then the customer changed the title to Project Manager and dropped the rate to $50. I candidly told the recruiter that, clearly, this client does not have the commitment and budget for a transformational enterprise effort to be successful and gracefully bowed out. Even for highly competitive W2 roles, I am seeing salaries around 30% lower than previously expected. I am grateful for the part-time freelance work I have that pays a good rate. Honestly, I am frustrated with the current state of my industry and am exploring roles elsewhere. If I am only going to get paid $40 anyway, then I'll at least do a fun job like the side hustle I am starting soon as a Wine and Spirits Sales Rep.

Welcome to 20 years ago! Monopolistic behavior is driven, in part, by tariffs

Indeed. The C-Suite of a previous commercial client is outsourcing an increasing amount of its IT work offshore to India even though executives at the VP level oppose the move.
