Hi there! Thanks for the prompt response on this. I hear you. This is a tough challenge. Let's thank technology for this one. AI, ATS, HRIS systems have made it very easy to sit back and have the work done for us until we reach a screened number of viable candidates. With that this environment requires a higher networking approach on the part of the job seeker. Recommend not looking too far for networking, look at your family, friends, past colleagues to start (Referral links are still honored). Then for roles where you may not know anyone, find a person within the company to talk with. I actually recommend the last one in! Guess who's most excited about their new role, and just made their way through the interview and onboarding process!!! Hope this helps some. Coach Olivia

    Hi Olivia!

The ghosting. I understand some companies get so many applications it's not possible to respond to everyone. But I don't believe this is true for everyone.

I've been looking for a PT job for over a year and have submitted over 100 applications. Of these, I've only received 42 replies.

Hi Paulla! Thanks for sharing. Yes! Great assessment. We could do much better. Even if when closing out a req we hit the canned message to all who are still active for the role. True it is very doable. Could even be programmed in. As I have shared in other post and articles, there is no excuse. It's truly just a realization of what is happening and why. It's always tough to see from the other perspective until you're knee deep in it. In full transparency, I never would have thought I would do that myself and yet at least or two have fallen off the radar. One person, certain amount of time, competing priorities, etc. etc. etc.

So, I definitely understand how frustrating it can be on the other side and we should do better.

    Thanks for hanging in there.

By PT, do you mean part-time or physical therapist or something else?

    Best regards,

    Coach Olivia

And just wanted to add this as I just reviewed and shared this on another post, but here are my rough estimates on what's currently trending and what you can expect. Again, not saying it is right but it may lend some comfort to know that you are not alone and that you are actually on par for the market.

From what I see trending amongst my current and past clients in this market, out of all of your applications, you can expect up to 25% redirection (decline) letters and another 25% ghosted. This would put you at 50% to receive responses, which aligns pretty closely with your numbers.

Most offers are very low pay. It seems they want a heavy discount on staff.

    Hi there,

Unfortunately, this is one of the perks on the company's side to the current culture. With many in the talent pool there is the opportunity to decrease the pay scale. What happens is that the pay scale for a role has been lowered by a few companies who may really have good reason i.e. financial challenges, etc. This then lowers the competitive market benchmark/analysis on that role. So now every company gets the lower rate as the range when going to the market to post or extend an offer.

Doesn't make it sit well but it is a cause.

    Hope this information was helpful.

Recommend filtering for roles in the salary range you are looking for with no other criteria and seeing what's out there. You could also see if your skill set can be well served in higher paying industry.

I have a full time job and am looking for another role. The one thing that stands out is the incredible lack of decorum and poor manners by many of these companies. Failure to show up for interviews. Constantly more than 10 minutes late. Putting out job reqs when they have already made offers. Failure to respond to emails. Ghosting. These folks are trying to prove to me they are doing me a big favor. They are correct. I wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole and my Glassdoor reviews are now telling the whole world.....

    Hi GirlBossanova934974!

Definitely understand. This market is challenging for everyone on all sides.

That is one way to look at it. No need to bother with those companies based on the standard you have set.

Wish you the best in your search!

    Coach Olivia
