What would you do? (**A 2 minute read**)

I applied to a job that checked all my boxes professionally and personally. Many fellow FGBer's know, this is rare and so I'm here because I'm at a crossroads.

I was prescreened by the recruiter and she is all "P&Q's" (meaning she's the kind that remains very proper/neutral in her communications). She mentioned that she would be sharing my resume with the hiring manager, but was still reviewing other potential candidates.

I followed up with my thankatory email and included a connection story which I did using a video to share what it would mean to me to be considered for the opportunity (you have to take my word for it, but authentically I did have a connection story relevant to the role and why I'd be a great fit). Her response was "wow, this is great. I will forward this as well to the hiring manager." I'm staying optimistic, but it's been a week of crickets.

Later that same week, I interviewed for another opportunity and was offered the job. This however was my "Plan B". It's a 1099/Consultant role and truly honored to be their top choice. It's a role where I know I'd do well, but it's a year long project, which could lead to other opportunities with them in the future. But your girl here is a long game thinker, so this is bothering me a little.

I plan on reaching back out to the recruiter today and checking in. The opportunity is still open on job boards, so unless they haven't taken the post down, it's still available. I still have a shot. When I tell you I'm manifesting... I'M MANIFESTING, okay??

So, I'm curious... what would my fellow bada$$ FGB Babes do/say to further your chances to move the needle?

Think like me: God wrote that job description for you. You check all the boxes for the role (maybe one or two aren't perfect matches, but you got moxie (and evidence) to make up for that). Even if they drop the salary a little, you'd still be in a good place financially/spiritually, because it's *chef's kiss*.

I'm more anxious than a cat in a room full of rocking chairs right now!

Throw some sauce on me, sprinkle that fairy dust on this post, only the realist, most real.

P.S.: If you made it this far... you're like REALLY the BESTEST and I appreciate you taking the time to hear me out! Thank YOU!!)

Clichés aside. I would let go and let the universe take it from here. If you know anything about manifestation you know the harder you try and control an outcome the opposite is what is delivered.

No more pushing and no more white hot energy is needed. Breathe and allow things to go wherever they will. If more information is needed you definitely will be asked.

Don’t overthink. Go with the offer that you have and let things happen from there. Don’t think A & B is very different. Practice choice over emotional one

I've consulted before, jumped off the cliff leaving a full-time job for a contract. I did this twice and it worked out both times. Jump off the cliff. A bird in the hand.... do not wait for what you think is the right job. Take what you have in your hand now. My 2 cents anyway. Good luck!

I read this and honed in. This IS your future. One year is amazing. If you don't leap, someone else will. I wrote earlier "a bird in the hand..." Do it and go for it.

You let the other guys know you have another offer and that if you have a real opportunity, some insight on timeline would be helpful. Do not say no to the real offer. Buy time reasonably and respectfully. Honestly and communication are the best guides. The ideal job is only ideal because of the information you have. There are layer and layer of information you do not have. Keep an open mind about what is really “perfect” or not. I mean, they aren’t terribly agile are they? And potentially not very respectful of your time by not calling back. I’ve been there, but really it’s not a great sign. Best of luck! Sounds like either way, you’ll smash it ?

Recruiter chiming in and what is really important to remember is that your “perfect” position is the very same for a half dozen others. A really concerning sign should be the crickets, often meaning that you might be this company’s “Plan B”. I would seriously think about your offer and what it might take to make this your “perfect” job, it might be a matter of bringing in your fresh ideas and creating exactly what you are looking for rather than waiting on a company that doesn’t have the decency to keep good communications with you! Wishing you the best.

In the past, I took the job that was on the table. I hadn't worked for years so I took what was in front of me. Of course, it led me down a different path than I was not expecting but I think some things happen for a reason. Take the job and if the other opportunity comes back then take the better of the two.

Claim it Sis! It’s yours! The holiday weekend is here and you’ll hear from them next week.

I’m where you are in the sense that I applied for a role that’s a perfect fit and I’m praying for a chance to interview and show them why I’m the best candidate.

    Much success to you!

I would wait until Monday (Tuesday if you have this long weekend) write a note to the Recruiter and let them know you have been offered another role. Ask for the timeline (you should have done this in her screening call- after all you should be screening them too) If she says it could be weeks, then take the other role. A bird in the hand is worth way more and you might be waiting for nothing. Timing is everything and this time your dream didn't align time wise with their process.

  10. Anonymous

You've done everything right for the "dream" job. You can send a final email reminding them of how they are your first choice but you now have another offer on the table and would appreciate an update on your candidacy. Remember-part of manifesting is detaching from outcomes. If it's truly yours, it will not be taken away from you. It is a very rough market right now. Take the offer you have in hand. If your dream job finally comes through, you can always accept it.

As others have said, the 1099 role is real and it’s now and makes use of your skills. Ask for a day or two extension to decide and, in the meantime, contact the recruiter for the other position to get a real handle on where things stand.

Early in my career, which was a lifetime or two ago, I jumped for what I thought was my dream job. Everything fit, or so I thought. It lasted 10 months until I quit for gaslighting and other mental anguish. I had documented everything and was even able to collect unemployment, it was that bad.

Maybe your dream job truly is just that. But in either position, you never know what a year will bring.

    Good luck!

Well yeah, I would also be very cautious about that "dream" job.

When we are so excited about a job (and you seem to be so excited and wanting it very badly) we can oversee HUGE red flags.

The interview for my last position in a very toxic workplace was actually one of the best interviews I have ever had. It was my dream job and I gave my best. I met the other candidate coming out from the office and I knew I am going to get this job! Just like you I was thinking, that this is my dream coming true! I put in my 100% and more, namely giving the recruiters the impression of the candidate they needed. They said they were not recruiting for skills because these can be learned but for personality. So I showed the best personality traits of mine.

By trying to impress them so badly, I was completely unaware of their early red flags (like asking too personal questions during the interview, offering me the position immediately, manager showing narcissistic traits etc.). Now I think that this position was my biggest disappointment.

So, never forget that an interview is the opportunity for you to proof them as well. Maybe there is really everything like you assume it to be, and this is your dream job, but chances are that after some time in that company you'll see that most companies are just like families, dysfunctional.

    Be patient!

the hardest part about the interview process is the waiting and uncertainty. But if that job is what you want, you made a strong connection and case for why you’re a perfect fit, then you need to just believe that if it’s meant for you it’ll be yours.

Worse case—you have your plan B lined up. And if you don’t get your first choice make sure you ask for some specific feedback as to why you weren’t selected. It may be something you had no control over or it may be something you can learn/gain over the next year or so. Ask them to keep your resume on file and consider you in the future for similar roles.

You sound like you nailed the interview and the video sounds like it made quite the impression. I’m thinking positive vibes on your behalf and I wish you so much luck and success.

  14. Anonymous

Tell your Plan B that you need some time. Or better, ask them when they need the latest to know the answer.

Then be patient. I think that you already did everything you could.

    Fingers crossed!

  15. Anonymous

Take Plan B and wait for the other to get back to you.

  16. Sandy Pochapin

I agree with Anonymous. Take Plan B and if you get the other job, you quit. Companies are not loyal to employees and you're a consultant, not even a full-time employee. If you tell Job A you have an offer, then make sure you let them know you're still interested, so they don't assume the door is now closed for you.

  17. Anonymous

Share with the recruiter if Dream Job that you’ve received another offer but you’re very interested in this position and ask the status. If they ignore you or deflect, maybe that’s your sign to take Plan B

  18. Anonymous

Hello Lovely Hearts ♥ I'm the OG poster and wanted to give you all a head's up that I accepted my plan B option.

I did follow up again with my plan A and am disappointed to say that the recruiter has ghosted on responding.

I took all your comments to heart and it just makes sense sometimes to get out of your own head and see what other points of view are. Thanks for all the wisdom and for sharing your experiences, it was highly valued!

Taking a step back from career stress and finding a clear way to unwind on weekends is absolutely vital for maintaining long-term mental clarity. Personally, I like to completely detach from work by keeping up with international football matches and doing some casual sports prediction on the side. Finding a safe and highly transparent platform can be daunting with so many sketchy options out there, which is why I always do thorough research beforehand. Stumbling upon the comprehensive Melbet reviews Kenya overview on Winbet gave me the exact confidence I needed regarding platform security and smooth user payouts.
