Wow - Our stories are identical - except I have NOT found a job as easily, I am at a Sr. Director level in Talent Management (HR), and my termination was based on my boss (young/inexperienced) not really understanding the things he brought me there to lead (Changing a Culture, Bringing New Leadership Development approach, etc...). As many know/should know, these things would come with some employee resistance. However, when that resistance showed up - he caved. He also gave mixed direction and instructions, and basically confused a lot of us. The company itself drug its feet in making decisions (part of why they couldn't accomplish anything) and instead of recognizing this - he just scapegoated me. Furthermore, I left a good job - AND passed up other opportunities - for this opportunity and now I am stuck filing for unemployment -- to buffer the severance I received back in July. I actually STILL have dreams about this almost every night. So I totally get the anger and resentment. A few things I will say - 1/ the person who said "what did you learn," is right-on. I have really been focusing a lot on that. I do believe things happen for a reason, and though the timing (for me) really sucks - I do believe maybe I was being protected from something worse down the road. 2/ I am seeing a therapist and just added an executive coach. They are helping. I still have the nightmares, but I realize its rooted less in me wanting to "tell off" short man (the boss) -- and more in recognizing how I deal with "rejection...." even through the Therapist has me working through the fact that what I see as "rejection" is not rejection of ME per se. 3/ I was encouraged to write it all out. Write a letter with every single thing I want to say to them -- and then burn it. I still haven't finished it - but I will say the writing it out part has made me feel better. I wish you a lot of luck as you process. Just know, it was NOT you. A lot of these "leaders" out here couldn't lead their way out of a paper bag. Trust me - the work I do in Talent Management has shown me that first hand. It is NOT fair - but try to look at the blessings you do have. No missed pay (BIG) and (hopefully) a better culture. Wishing you success in working through this and in your role
