Prayers to you, this is a tough market.

You got this! Take what you can to get you started on a path of earning. Keep looking, keep focused on your goal and Don't. Give. Up. OR Give. In. Been there, done that, and realize the struggles now and ahead but kept at it.

    One step at a time.

I've so been where you are!!

Word of advice: never let anyone say a "single mother is a failure doomed for welfare" . People told me that constantly.

    So wrong!!!

You got this and I totally believe in you! I don't know your field but start with what you got and build from there :) Agencies can put your foot in the door. Even if a crap job, it's a start and a reference!!!!

What type of work are you looking for? While it's tough out there, having multiple plans in place, A, B and C plans, can increase your chances of landing a role.

....and many are getting laid off because understandably either management pays or a Big Mac, fries and a soda (plus the apple pie?) goes to $20.

I was at Navy Pier in Chicago this January. Kiddie McNuggets meal (mine, I'm a cheapskate but splurging on 6 vs 4) was $9.50. I can't imagine a decent meal in downtown on the Magnificent Mile!!!! ($9.50 for a soda??)

I live on grilled cheese from home and yogurt. Reason: retirement and travel. No way will I support a fast food chain when a bookkeeper in my area earns $18

    Have you looked into Retail?

If you are willing and able, seek jobs where there are more jobs than employees - such as up north. If you are American, look at Alaska. If you are Canadian, look at the territories. There is always a shortage there and the pay is good.

Good luck pay sucks everywhere. Being a single parent is so hard. I have a decent job but can barely make ends meet.
