Creating a LLC in Florida

I am looking for guidance on how to set up my consulting business after recently moving to Florida. I have no idea where to start first. Can you please provide some guidance and recommendations?

Okay, so first you're going to want to register your LLC with the county. Do a web search to find it where the office is. It's usually around $50 in many states.

Then, you want to get insured. Business insurance for liability can be very cheap and save your butt if anything goes awry in your consulting.

Finally, marketing. Maybe you already have a website and business cards with your number. If not, get some and start advertising yourself locally. Get in touch with the local chamber of commerce, go to professional meetings where people who would benefit from your advice would congregate, even visit the local Small Business Administration.

Start here and you may have some other ideas crop up along the way.

Yes, go to the Florida secretary of state website. They will have the overview, forms and list of fees fir you to apply as a Limited Liability Company.

You should open a business bank account and a simple bookkeeping program like Quick books and set up your formal processes and financial statements.

There are also small businesses that can advise you on things like dba, how to treat various expenses and income and business licenses.
