In final round for a FT role and at a crossroads.

In final round for a FT role and at a crossroads. I have a young child with autism and have been living intentionally off savings over the last 6 months since my last contract ended. I know I need to go back to work both financially as well as for my social emotional wellbeing. That said, I am torn. I am coming from exec level and pay so decided to pursue director/vp level roles so as to hopefully reduce the intensity, pressure and time commitment. Part-time I have found to not be the answer as I get sucked into more than I prefer to do or it doesn’t make financial sense with the cost of daycare so a FT role within a company feels like it might be a better option. How have others navigated similar situations? What helped you decide what to do, which role to pick, and what to negotiate during the job offer? Not really a good option to not work as I need to return to having an income for obvious reasons.

From my experience, I don't think VP or even Director levels will necessarily be much less effort. In a lot of contexts, those roles are just as intense (and sometimes more) as the President's. If there are any decently paid individual contributor roles that would be relevant, that's likely to give you the most flexibility to balance the intense needs of having a child with exceptional needs. If you do need to take a higher-level position, a company is likely to have the most leave to help you balance home and work, but you'll want to ask a lot of questions about expectations and flexibility.
