I'm a trained school counselor but am leary about returning to the school system after post pandemic changes. Appreciate advice on related areas to explore. In addition, my recent position was hybrid (3 days in office) and it was a great schedule for my family situation.

What type of post pandemic changes worry you?

I've heard that there's more reliance on the counselors to help with things like testing and other duties that are not really our responsibility. My own concern is that there might be less funding available for activities which encourage the students such as college visits and career related activities.

So what you've shared is what you've heard or concerns about what might or might not be. These things may or may not be true, but until you actually get out there and look for a new role, you just don't know.

What age group do you have experience working with? Do you enjoy working with people/kids directly or would you prefer work behind the scenes?

I've mainly worked with high school aged youth. I do enjoy working with people directly but am open to being behind the scenes especially if the pay is worth it.

Have you considered privately offering your services? I have two young kids on the spectrum and know that many fellow autism parents need additional resources preparing their kids for life post-high school. Things like exploring college/career options, applying and interviewing for a job, etc. even social topics or mental health topics require a more individualized approach than what is typically made available to students. Operating in a private capacity like that would also afford you flexibility with your schedule, you would set your own rates, and guarantee that you wouldn’t be assigned extra duties like testing as you mentioned below.
