I recently joined the land of Fun-Employment. After getting laid off from my job of nearly 6years. I'm starting to look for my next step, but feeling discouraged by all the fake recruiters and fake job ads contacting me on LinkedIn. I am a recruiter, and it makes me sick to see how many posts are scams. Its dishearting to know people are focusing on kicking people when they are down. Any insight on how to get past all the fake posts? I had an interview today, and the link didn't work, and no response to an email regarding the interview.

My advice is to set "looking for work" to be viewed by recruiters only. I found that the fake job ads and "resume review services" have disappeared. My other recommendation is to make a list of companies in your area that you would like to work for and go to their career page daily for new roles- and apply on their site only.

Thank you for the tip. I went ahead and made the edit to my LinkedIn.

If you don't want to apply to fake jobs--network.

I don't think sending out blind resumes work in the modern world. You have to vet the company, vet the position and network to verify. Unfortunately, LinkedIn is the worst hotbed of fake everything. Your personal network and attending industry conferences is a more realistic strategy. Good luck.

Breathe, as a Recruiter you know how to work the system and how to spot bad juju in a search. Self promote on the platforms where you used to find people, cross reference things using other sites besides linkedin. There are many other job search sites that are often better especially in the talent space. Use glassdoor to verify and blind as well. Good luck.

Thank you! It’s been along time since I’ve been on the other side I was flooded by the bad apples. Figuring out the new methods to market myself, and networking for sure.
