I am a 56-year-old white male with over 15 years of digital marketing experience, social media management, strategy, and a "former" graphic designer. I understand all aspects of digital marketing but cannot land a job or rarely an interview. I have even used a resume writer to update my resume. What am I doing wrong?

In addition to using a resume writer, have you uploaded your resume to ChatGPT, then pasted the job description for a role you're applying to into the search and asked AI to optimize your resume (and cover letter) to that particular job? As a Career Coach, this has landed my clients an interview 98% of the time since you're checking all of the ATS bot requirements. Your experience and transferrable skills are still your own, you're just optimizing the format and content. Also, have you put together a plan for reaching out to new and existing people in your network? Try setting up 30-minute informational interviews with 2-3 people per week and at the end of each conversation, ask them if there's someone they recommend you reaching out to. This helps you expand your reach and connect with people on an authentic level. (This is a great tip from the book, "The 20-Minute Networking Meeting"). Good luck!

There is no "ATS bot". Please stop perpetuating this harmful nonsense to vulnerable jobseekers.

From what I know, this post is accurate, and many companies use Applicant Tracking Software to manage and sort high volumes of applications to their roles. In doing a simple search, here is an article about how they're utilized, but many resources are searchable to learn more:

Well from what I know - and I've been using an ATS every day since they have become commercially available - there is no "ATS bot" in the way most people think of.

The little chat icon that pops up to ask if you need help? Technically that's an ATS bot

An ATS is essentially a digital filing cabinet where resumes are stored, where we can track and move applicants through the different steps of the interview process, can send emails from, schedule interviews, it's where offer letters are generated.

An ATS is not making decisions about moving or not moving applicants forward.

I look at every resume that applies to my open positions. I'M the bot.

Thank you so much. I have done the ChatGPT thing. Don’t network as much as I should so great reminder.

Are you getting interviews and not landing jobs or are they not responding to you at all?
