I work as a mortgage processor. I have been with my current employer for 4 years. 2 weeks into starting with them they reduced hourly pay. I felt they lied to get me in knowing they had plans to change the pay. I stayed because it was COVID. Also the bonus and commission made up for the loss. After year 2 they decided to change the bonus and commission. I had and issue but was still making good money. Since then they have continued to change bonus and commission and now they decided to lower hourly again. With all these changes the income is no longer good and I have to work harder and longer to make the money I used to. They also want us to work later and on weekends. Saying now it is voluntary but they are working to make it mandatory. I know it is time for me to go but it is so hard getting my resume reviewed with AI reading them instead of people now. I get those although your resume is impressive emails every day.

Humans are still reviewing resumes and setting the parameters for an applicant tracking system. It is not AIs fault.

If you’re trying to stay in the mortgage or financial services sector it will be tough. The mortgage job market is pretty bad right now due to rolling layoffs as new loans have slowed across the country (assuming you’re in the US).

You may need to rework your resume to show how your transferable skills can be applied.

I agree that AI is not the issue here, you will need to network with members of HR or Talent Acquisition as well as other employees in the company who may already be in your network via LinkedIn. If the application asks a question such as..."Do you have 5 years of experience in ABC", and you indicate No as an answer, then you are not meeting their ideal experience level, and you are not moving further into the review process.

I also worked as a loan processor during the mass layoff movement when interest rates first the market. I would reach out to any of the past employees that may have moved on from your company. Check in to see where they are and how they like it. Let them know you’re looking to move but not sure where to for now. I agree, use your LinkedIn as much as possible. A referral is always the best way to try and be placed on the top of the stack of resumes. Also feel free to reach out to me on LinkedIn and I’ll see if any of my old peeps places are hiring if you would like ?

What kind of position are you looking for? Unfortunately depending upon the position AI looks for keywords to identify potential candidates. For example my employer has a five question introduction that addresses job requirements, if applicant answers one or more of the questions with a “negative” response, application never even makes it to the recruiter, AI excludes. Suggestion is to take notice of the employers application process and any job requirements for position you are applying for
