I'm so tired of applying for jobs and hearing nothing back.

I'm so tired of applying for jobs and hearing nothing back.

(Context: I'm applying for public health jobs.) I've had literally one interview. One. Most of my applications are in the "In Review" waiting room. I'm just really frustrated right now,

    Yes, the market is tough.

I would also consider a resume review. Just for the feedback and helpful tips.

it is an employer market right now and employers are taking their time in the selection process. I received an email last week from a company I applied for on April 2. I just had the fifth interview for a different position I first interviewed with a recruiter back in February. Be patient, there are lots of jobs in public health and I am hopeful that they will reach out to you soon.

It is super frustrating right now and a lot of companies are taking the easy way out and just flat out not communicating with applicants which is also super frustrating.

Potentially you've tried some of these things but I'll include a list just incase it sparks some ideas of other thing to try to enhance your response rate:

    • Consider networking and casting a wide net to reach out to hiring manager, HR professionals and other professionals at the organizations and companies you are applying to
    • Consider a resume review - there may be small adjustments that could help boost your responses
    • Apply to role directly on company websites whenever possible
    • In that same lane, consider exploring other job boards. I've worked with a lot of clients who are only using one job board and getting zero responses and trying other job boards has helped.
    • when possible follow up with companies. Some job postings do say "do not contact" but if they don't, add them to a list and look for a general email, general HR email or a phone number that you can call to ask about the status of your application.
    • If you're on LinkedIn - look for ways to further optimize your profile
    • On linkedin you can also look through your network and reach out to individuals who work in similar spaces and/or who might have other connections to the public health space

Stop applying to jobs and start applying to people (aka, networking). I hit a point in my own job search, I think everyone does at some point, where you feel like your apps are going into a black hole. They probably are... so when that happens or you run out of things to apply for, try networking. It's much more human centric, it's more fulfilling than sitting on the computer all day and it is a great confidence and mood booster! Plus, you get access to the hidden job market!

Agree with Nadia! Look into networking more and attending in-person/virtual events. I'd also say look into volunteering at health fairs and events in your local area.

Or attend any public health workshops!

It could be a good place to network and meet other pros in your profession while also sharpening your craft. Good luck!
