Worried I may have lost an opportunity.

Worried I may have lost an opportunity.

I had an interview yesterday for a job in which I'm reasonably qualified and extremely interested. The conversation went well and both my hard and soft skills can translate, but I got the feeling the hiring manager might be a little hesitant because I do not have any direct experience.

I've worked in construction/real estate for the past 13 years, and the clientele for the job would be in that industry. But the actual position is more like sales and marketing, which is what I did 13 years ago for a wholesale supply company. I never mentioned it in the interview because it was so far from my mind.

The interviewer never explicitly called the job sales/marketing because it's better geared to someone with more technical aptitude, and will morph into something else once the initial tasks are met. It just hit me today that I had the perfect experience and didn't inform them.

Just looking for words of advice or encouragement.

I intend to followup with thank you emails today, and cross my fingers that I get the offer.

I would follow-up as planned, but note that after the interview you'd been thinking of how you would leverage this additional experience if selected and make yourself available I'd they'd like to discuss it, since it didn't come up in the interview. Good luck!

Agreed! Let them know that you had takeaways post interview and that you are excited about the opportunities you could provide the company. Great advice. :)

Best advice right here! Draw the interviewer's attention this previous experience and how it will translate to this new position.

You can send a thank you note for the interview and note that you do have the perfect experience in sales/marketing too! Good luck!
