Am I being ghosted or…?

Am I being ghosted or…?

I started applying for new roles in the middle of March and there was one particularly I was really interested in since it’s field I never worked in and was looking for change. I did the phone interview and the manager seemed to have enjoyed our interview so much that she invited me to shadow for about an hour with the team and do an in person interview with her afterwards. I agreed and we set a date. Everything went well with the shadowing but the manager was so busy with onboarding a new hire that we didn’t get to meet or interview. She texted me a day later telling me how much everyone was excited to bring me on. She wanted to schedule an in person interview at their other office in the city. I agreed and we set a date. The day before, she texts me and lets me know the doctors are out and there’d be no need to come in but we can do a virtual interview and she’ll follow up to schedule it. At this point I’m getting a little annoyed with the last minute changes but I really want this position so I once again agree. It’s now been a month since I’ve heard anything and I've sent one follow up text since our last conversation and also checked to see if the role was filled. I’ve never had a potential employer suddenly become unresponsive. Is this normal nowadays?

    Unfortunately yes very common.

I'm so sorry that this happened.

Maybe give it one more try with a phone call or a email this time and then if no response I'd move on and try to look for something else. I am so sorry this happened. I've been in your shoes where everything just clicked, and the experience was magical and then for some reason it falls through.

Maybe it was not meant to be and consider the fact that perhaps since everyone so so busy all the time you dodged a chaotic and disorganized work environment.

    Thank you!

This sounds like a chaotic and disorganized environment and person. Let it go. She knows where to find you.

I guess I'm just old school in some areas. I prefer a phone call to a text when setting up appointments. Having said that, this sounds like a very disorganized and unprofessional business to work for. I would definitely keep looking.

    Yep!

Thank you everyone for your advice! I’ve let go of the fact that this job could’ve been for me and accepted that it likely wasn’t meant to be. I’ve interviewed elsewhere since my last time speaking with her but I’m just a person who can’t help but wonder what happened especially since everything seemed to be going in a positive direction. I will reach out via email and if no response, I’ll close the door.

    thanks again! ?

Unfortunately, this sort of thing has become more and more prevalent. Sounds like this job just fell through aka there was no longer any money in the budget for the job. So intstead of just saying this to the candidate, the manager decided to hide under the rug. Consider yourself lucky to have avoided this manager and be sure you write up this incident on Glassdoor.com.. These sorts of managers and companies need to be called on social media or they will keep on doing this.

Send a note to them in a proper email and let them know that while you enjoyed speaking with them you assume they might have moved onto hiring someone else or perhaps closed the role as you have not heard from them. Then let them know that if the role becomes open again you would have interest in renewing the conversation. This reply gives you back control of the situation and worst case is a professional bow on top of things, then move on.

It's medical. So many last second changes come up. But yes, someone should at least reach out and check in.
