Hi

Hi

My name is Durray. I have applied for over 100 jobs, trying to transition in Cyber Security and Data Privacy Law from a law school in NY. I have over 10 years of experience as an educator/coach where I handle training, data analysis, project management, remediation while adhering to privacy laws. I am not sure what is that I need to do inorder to segue in legal compliance/ paralegal/ complaince analyst roles. WOuld appreciate any feedback/advice. I did try LinkedIn job search and I can say it's very diasppointing based on my experience. I. Willing to intern/shadow someone who would help me propel ahead. Thank you for reading my post:)

Network, network, network. Do you stay in touch with former law school colleagues or anyone you've taught? Has anyone entered into the cyber security space? It will involve a bit more research to see how you can transfer your skills and applying to jobs may not work for you, especially when most employers are using ATS to field applications.

If you haven't already, try looking at privacy/legal roles in small tech companies including startups - bonus points if those tech companies are in the cybersecurity or GenAI space (there is a lot of investments in GenAI startups and investment leads to jobs)

If you can secure a role in privacy/legal in a GenAI/Data or Cybersecurity startup, that can set you up to gain experience in the industry, allow you to transition into a more technical role in that company or create a launchpad for your next career move.

Working in early-stage tech companies can be challenging (lots of work without a lot of corporate structure) but those jobs can also be transforming because in many early-phase startups there can be opporunities to work on many different projects.

I transitioned from a clinical healthcare role into a technical startup role and I'm happy to share more details on how to do that transition. I'm not a career coach, I'm a startup executive that is open to help others. I agree with Barb here. You have the background that makes you capable of working as an analyst, technical success management or product manager in a tech role. I'd also consider Gen AI in your case, since the language models could benefit from someone with your background.

Start ups are indeed challenging, but I do like the environment because you gain foundational knowledge, work on projects, become a subject matter expert, see mistakes first hand, can build process & structure and grow within such companies or springboard into something that's more exciting to you. Solid advice! Hope you reach out to Barb!

    Hi there!

Congrats on your transition! Definitely not an easy thing to accomplish so kudos to you.

First step is your resume. Your resume needs to speak to the roles that you are applying for. Keywords must align with the work that you want to do and the job descriptions and for next level screening reviews, Recruiters/Hiring Mgrs on average take about 6-7 seconds to review a resume and make a decision on if to move forward with outreach. At a glance your resume needs to be clear, concise and check the boxes of what they are looking for.

Hope this helps! (Will post my Top 3 on tips to building a resume.)

Are you looking for a law firm or a private company? Either way, try your law school/program's career center. Paralegal licensing varies by state, so check out your state's bar association. The bar may also have some internship opportunities. Good luck.

Either will work. Tried the law school career center and now fully focussed on networking and co working with the compliance team at current job. So a progress of sort:) But still need to transition into legal compliance
