Change in leadership, lack of support

Change in leadership, lack of support

I was promoted to an executive role under the prior CIO, who embraced diversity and appreciated perspectives coming from someone who has a track record for producing the company results.

Once he left, the new leader was a lady who was promoted to his role as the new CIO and she had built her prior team from people she worked with for several years. She is NOT embracing any new perspectives and is now forcing me to take direction from people who were on her old team...even though they are not in my management hierarchy and in most cases, are lower level. They tell me the CIO said you have to do this, the CIO said your team must do that, the CIO said you can't do this...

I don't report directly to the CIO and my manager is not respected so he's being completely disregarded. Meanwhile, my team is EXCEEDING goals and the management team won't acknowledge the contribution. They told me to downgrade a performance review for a Director on my team, because he's great at what he does and he knows it! They all agree he's great, have no examples of him being rude or brash, just "showing off"....he's a minority male.

I'm already a minority female in Technology, which can be a bit lonely, now I feel so isolated, unsupported and ICED OUT!!!

Gosh, this isn't good. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. Change in management and administration is tough. I can only say, I hope it gets better but if not, perhaps you should take your outstanding skills, and your outstanding with you to another company.

I am so, so sorry. Do not expect it to improve. If I were you, I would work on my resume, quietly update LinkedIn (i.e. don't push the revisions out to all your contacts, just put them there for others to see) and start a job search. In the meantime keep a couple work diaries: a list of everything you are doing at work and another detailing all the nonsense from the new leader (facts only, no speculation about her motives). Just in case.
