Seeking Tips:

For staying sane in a dual- bonkers situation. First it's the current work environment- bug infestations, emotionally volatile co-leader, incompetent other co-leader, checked out board, unattainable goals then complete freak outs when goals not reached, micromanaging, second guessing, and forcing employees to work in crisis mode all the time. Second, it's looking for a job but like so many of you, it's very very slow going. I intend to keep going until I find something, of course. But sheesh.

For self care, I try to work from home but feel guilty leaving my team vulnerable to the behaviors of leadership when I am not there to run interference. I meditate, exercise, go outside, connect to spirituality, take ashwaganda, just ordered a saffron supplement, drink plenty of water, try to connect with people, read a lot, and vent to my partner who is loving and supportive.

Surround yourself with uplifting professionals that are supportive and wise.

  2. Me!

Im in a similar situation. Simply trying to enjoy the good things. Taking the nice long way to work, home life, working out and trying not to lose my sanity or absorb any of the bad habits and behaviors around me. To keep my mind sharp I started to learn another language. In environments like this support and growth are non existent. Where possible and appreciate I offer co-workers the support I seek.

A paycheck. Work is work, if it isn't satisfying and feeding your career and needs then yes look for something new. When you need to work from home to get away take that day to also spend looking for a place where the list above is not happening. Every role has something that isn't perfect find what you need at the very minimum for sanity and calm.

Remember work is something that funds your life, at 5PM pull that plug mentally and do things outside of work that let you forget till the next day.

I had similar situation and ultimately needed my doctor to prescribe me anxiety medication because I started having panic attacks. Therapy was an absolute game changer though! She helped provide a lot of perspective and coached me on how to establish professional boundaries etc. really cannot recommend that enough!

as for the working environment, bug infestation? Yikes! Can you complain to HR or some kind of labor board? I would also invest in some nice headphones and add some little things around your desk to brighten your day. Photo of you at your vacation spot or anything that will bring you peace, have your favorite snack or candy on deck for the harder days (assuming it won’t contribute to bug infestation) aromatherapy hand lotion to promote relaxation. You can’t change a lot about your office but you can brighten the space assigned to you!
