Responding to an email regarding family loss... An email was sent to my boss and me from an overseas associate who advised us of the loss of a family member and he could not attend calls. ( I was not copied on the email, but included on the To: XXX ).

My boss responded with a "Reply All"...".We will be thinking of you...xxxxxxxxx etc". Since she responded, would you also respond with your individual sympathy? I can Reply All or send a separate email directly to him only from me. Thank you!!

Of course, they felt comfortable bringing you into the loop to that coworker. Separate email.

Do whatever you feel comfortable with. Typically, I wouldn't do a reply all - out of respect for my other coworkers who may already be flooded with emails. I would send a private reply sharing my condolences.

Up to you but I prefer to reply privately. Reply all isn't necessary.
