Professional services firm - use Timesheets to identify our tasks and invoice clients.... bill in 15 minute increments... We provide our clients details of the work performed... There is a "new regime" with one of our clients..... The "lead" at the client has questioned the value of the work provided

...I believe it may be the language we are using , for example, he questioned an action item that stated "Prepared email to xxxx and (then we include the description of the email and purpose).... His feedback was "feels silly to be tracking like this". I have not discussed with him yet.....so I am not sure what he means "feels silly to be tracking like this" Interested in your opinions and ideas! Thank you.

I review a lot of invoices like this but the language I most commonly see is “Email exchange with XXX re (purpose)” especially if you’re not billing in tenths of an hour, 15 minutes is more than just one email. I take the comment to mean less granular details in your billing entry and more things should be covered in the .25 billed. I hope that helps, but I could be wrong too!

Makes sense... more things done in the .25 billed. Thank you!

He is trying to make his mark and look like he's adding value. My guess he's going to start toying with the idea of monthly fixed rates or a rate card of services that won't require tracking of time.

He is one of those people who likes to make a lot of noise to demonstrate his contribution and management skill. These people usually calm down after a year.
