Just had to share my fellow grocery savers... I just got $1.85 cashback via Ibotta! (That doesn't seem like much, BUT it's all on stuff I was buying already so why not!?) Here's my referral code to check it out for yourself: https://ibotta.onelink.me/iUfE/8cc13c64

Short answer: no. I buy what's on my list (sometimes a few extra things) but I do shop conservatively...Aldi, Costco, and for certain things Dollar Tree. I also bought 1/4 cow from a local farmer; it was a big upfront expense but the quality of the meat is second to none and certain cuts became WAY more affordable.

I love Aldi! I'll buy a lot of my basics/staples there, and then go to H-E-B for anything more specific that Aldi doesn't have.

Yup- pantry has pasta and stuff for quick meals, but I shop at Aldi, which tends to be pretty cheap- I bring lunch to work and use the InstaPot to make meals to freeze on weekends for quick mid-week meals! Great post!

Save Money! I was setting time on Sunday's to meal plan and that was not working AT ALL. Now I spend 15-20 min on Tuesday and Wednesday's night and make the plan on Thursday. Plan you work - work your plan applies in my work life and now to grocery shopping. Using apps and online orders is very helpful as well.

LOOOOOVE this! When I teach meal planning, this aligns with what I recommend in terms of scheduling time to make the actual meal plan so good to hear :):)

I am a super-saver and value saving my money wherever and however I can. For grocery shopping, I make a list, buy in bulk, shop the perimeter, select generic brands, and use coupons. I am frugal. I think twice before purchasing items that are not on sale and like to pay with cash. It's all economics.

I try to be mindful so I don't toss spoiled food at the end of the week (feels so bad to do that!). I will use coupons if I have them for the products I use (I'm pretty brand loyal). Shopping at Whole Foods always feels like a treat. But I can easily get wrapped up in spending too much!

Part of it is being really clear on what my week looks like. How many meals will I be eating at home and how much time do I have to prep. The second part is kind of boring -- but I tend to eat the same things over and over. It helps with the decision fatigue too! :)

I try to go in with a list so I'm only buying what I need and not anything that will go to waste! Sometimes, when I focus too much on deals, I end up buying more that I wouldn't have needed in the first place haha.

Oh, Casey, THE LIST is essential isn't it!?

Agreed! The list is KEY when it comes to staying on track financially. It may take some extra time, but making a list can also help with food waste - and making sure you're not buying something you already have a lot of!

Buying exactly what I need is how I save money. If I watch the ads or look for coupons, I end up buying things I don't need, brands I don't care for, or food that spoils. I like a nice predictable grocery bill. The best way to save is shelf stable ingredients, freezer meals, and portions that are realistic for your household.

I try to save money; i.e. if chicken breasts or ground turkey is on sale, we buy more than what is planned for the week and freeze some of it. Definitely work off of the produce sale listings for what we will use that is fresh every week. We will shop different stores in our area for who has the best sale items (Aldi, Sprouts, Wal-Mart, Hy-Vee) but the majority of our staples come from Wal-Mart. My husband is in the food sales industry and he believes they generally have the lowest prices. I try to resist Wally World but . . . . not generally successful! :)

I love this insider info, Merry!! haha And you brought up something I hadn't really thought much about, but you've got my wheels turning - about the STORE that has the best sales. We have a go-to (Kroger), but I might be passing up better deals!
