Rejection Email Pattern

Rejection Email Pattern

In the past few months, I have received a few rejection emails (I guess I’m lucky I even received those) from various companies. Instead of the usual “we went with another candidate who was a better fit” blanket statement, these rejections stated that because of the volume of candidates, they are no longer reviewing applications. I applied to these jobs within 24 hours of them being posted, so it’s not like timeliness of the application was a factor. It’s certainly discouraging to apply for jobs you are qualified for to not even have your application reviewed. Is this the new norm? Why would a company take this approach?

I've seen this too. I'll get an email notification from LinkedIn about jobs I'm interested in. I go immediately to the link to see that 100 people have already applied!

The job market is harsh for certain. I wouldn't completely give up on these possibilities though. If they're not reviewing applications - it still means they received yours. And it may be you'll have a chance if the initial considerations don't work out!

Depending on how you set up your notifications for LinkedIn, you often get the notification days or weeks after the job was posted. This has happened to me quite often, too.

Given everything going on, perhaps the position was yanked shortly after being posted, primarily if it relied on federal funding. I got one yesterday from USAJobs for a federal job I applied to months ago, and they said that they had reevaluated and are no longer considering applicants for the position.
