I worked with a company for quite a few years. I was the only other person on my boss' team. I gave 30 days. However, it was way too long. I checked out mentally way before my time was up

2 weeks as it is just a manager level position. The company is not going to depend on your transition efforts.

In most instances, 2 weeks. If there was some really compelling reason to stay longer, I'd consider it. If they'd prefer to pay me in lieu of notice, I'd totally be down for that.

Same day, if it is an 'at will' state. A company would not offer you the same luxury, so provided there are no legal implications - leave EOD.

I think it may depend on the company. At mine we have to give two weeks notice in order to get any of the severance stuff (like PTO time accrued, etc.). They have a tendency to decide to walk people out immediately who put in their notice, so I wouldn't put in any time before that.

It also depends on do you mean resignation or retirement notice? If/when I retire, I'll give my company plenty of notice when that retirement will take place.

We have a policy requiring 2 weeks minimum for hourly employees and 30 days for exempt employees. There's no real penalty for giving less notice beyond maybe not getting a solid reference. Because of the certainty that people will be permitted to work their notice, it's not uncommon for people to give longer notice rather than shorter.
