I’m annoyed I’m 30 years old. I quit my job at 29 because of a toxic workplace. They paid me only one check to do two jobs. My supervisor that used that would help take some of the blows for me left and when the other leadership came it was my expectation to do the work. I had to reinterview for my job because they had to justify my position from part-time to full time. I had an office coordinator position but during the interview I was told that I would be working the budget which was not told to me prior and I would have to do a presentation. I have never heard of doing a presentation for a non academic position. I thought usually people in academics did presentations for jobs positions. The salary was disappointing which was the last straw for me. I went to do a call center job right after and nobody warned me how stressful that could be. Everyday I was almost to tears because I needed the job and it was my first full-time job. After 6months of the constant blows I could not take it anymore and I left again. Present day, it has not been easy to find a job. I have a degree in Marketing but the companies that I have been applying to are not calling me back. I have found that when I put my high school education and I have gotten more of a call back. When I go to the interviews I believe I do well, I ask for feedback but no one gives it. It took me a while to decide on the specific field I want to try but I have little experience in that field. I did get a call back for a job in the field but now I am nervous because I don’t know what to study for the potential interview about the job. I just know that job really sounds good and I want to do my best, what should I do? It’s really overwhelming to study so much stuff in a short period of time. The recruiter says there may be interview slot to open this week.

There are a number of great sites online with standard interview questions as well as industry specific sites, including FGB. Be sure to answer the questions direct, and concise. Be friendly, be yourself.

Go through questions and write down your answers. When asked about experience in something or how you would achieve it, give example by telling a story. Ensure you are not talking more than 2 minutes. Pause.

If unsure, ask if that answered the question.

When your turn to ask questions, make sure you do. Questions should not be about benefits, pay or anything you can find online or were asked in interview, unless your are clarifying. Benefits are a recruiters job to discuss with you when offered the role. Ask about the day to day in the role, or who else you may be working with. What does the interviewer(s) like about their job or the company. What drew them to the company. Depending on role and interviewer's role there may be more detailed questions about team and work.

Instead of asking for feedback from interviewer, ask "have I answered all of your questions?" There are a few great ways to ask this.

    Good luck.

It’s normal to feel stressed-out at your first full-time job. It’s also normal to be asked to do a presentation in almost any office role / white-collar job, ESPECIALLY in Marketing. When you land your next position, don’t quit until you have something else lined up. Look up Andrew LaCivita on YouTube and search for his interview / salary negotiation videos. He has lots of formulas and tips to make you feel empowered when presenting your worth. Are your interviewers asking why you left your previous jobs? If so, be vague and sound optimistic like, “I needed more room for growth. I’m ready for a challenge!” instead of specific and negative like “This one manager was so toxic that she intentionally worked me 12 hours a day with no training.” Make the interview highlight how you will HELP the company by figuring out the pain points and showcasing how you can increase revenue. Purely for example, if the company needs more exposure through marketing, tell them you would love to assist in increasing their social media audience with your proven track record of creating compelling digital ads and Instagram reels. I hope this helps.

I always review the company’s website and social media, if sales or product oriented, always familiarize yourself with their products. (Customer testimonials, look into competitor products etc.)
