Everyone’s quick to blame AI for breaking hiring.

Everyone’s quick to blame AI for breaking hiring.

But here’s the reality: AI isn’t the villain. It’s the mirror.

Yes, AI makes it possible to apply to 100 jobs a week—but if you’re doing that, your strategy’s broken. That’s not job searching, that’s spraying and praying. And it’s burning both sides of the process.

Hiring managers aren’t drowning because of AI. They’re drowning because too many applicants are chasing volume instead of alignment. That problem existed long before ChatGPT ever showed up.

Sure, AI has made a lot of résumés and cover letters sound the same. But originality is still a choice. You don’t have to let a tool write your professional story for you.

And while AI may contribute to hiring delays, let’s not forget the real culprits—bureaucracy, indecision, and endless internal approvals.

As a former recruiter, I’ll say this: AI isn’t the fix or the threat. It’s just a tool.

The hiring process will only get better when the humans behind it start using it with strategy, clarity, and intention.

Amen. Please do long division as I call it and be the person behind your resume, not AI, not ChatGPT. Ultimately, a person has to explain as asked, and will not have ChatGPT robotic answers handy in the interview.

    You are preaching here.

Tools can help you organize your thoughts, sure. But at some point you have to sound like you and be able to stand behind what is on the page.

Yep ChatGPT won't do the job for you. Walk the talk is where it's at.

It's easy to blame A.I. for the hiring freezes and layoffs but the economy's slowdown is spooking everyone. Interest rates and tariffs are not results of A.I. they are the concerns when we are looking at immediate cash flow and business projections.

You are naming a truth people like to skip past. It feels tidy to pin everything on AI, but the real picture is a lot messier.

    Spraying and praying!! Love it.

Ha, right? It is the universal “I hope something sticks” move. We have all been there at some point. Glad that line hit.

I agree with your statement that AI is not the problem and it is a tool. We part ways with who are the people behind it as a hiring manager in human resources I believe that staff need to use it correctly or better.. double check the filters. Make sure that you’re getting a cross reference of candidates. AI searches are looking for a match if anyone ever interview someone that you saw it on paper was an absolute stretch but when you actually interviewed them, they were your best candidate.. here lots of a problem with AI. Some resumes are never getting in front of the recruiter or the hiring
