Hi, I need advice.

Hi , I need advice I am unable to decide which company to join as I have currently two offers one from eBay and other from JPMC .I am 38 female and mother of a 2 year old . In terms of pay JPMC is offering more then eBay but I need to go to office 3days a week and for eBay 2 days a week. Can someone please suggest considering my situation that I live in UK and a mother joining which organisation will help me grow and have work life balance

Always take the money. That's what we're working for.

A remote or work from home designation is never guaranteed unless its written in your contract. I always follow the money.

Depending on your role, neither may offer work/life balance. I would take the role with JPMC. It'll provide more money, allowing you to buy help to achieve work/life balance.

I'm well aware of both companies. Look at Glassdoor and see what others say about the culture of the company. Chasing $$ doesn't answer the question, what is the best direction. What I advise is to consider what gives you the longest benefit and what fulfills most of your needs. No job will fulfill 100%. But if it can fill 80% that's golden. Look at how each company treats women based on Glassdoor feedback. See if you can connect with someone that works there now. But time is ticking and a decision must be made. JPMC is what we consider in the world I work as the "sexy" company. And working there will give you street cred on your resume. But commit to staying there, not just one year and you're out. If pay is more, and you have to work in the office, you will work just as much at both companies in person or remote, but either way, if you're going to put in the hours, it makes sense you are paid for that. You will know exactly what to do. Being at home doesn't mean you work less. What fulfills your needs the most? Then go for that. Keep us posted and good luck!

Personally I would go with JPMC. There will be far more stability there and likely far better benefits and growth opportunities. Is eBay even relevant anymore? I don't know a single person who uses it. I do, however, know dozens of people who work for JPMC as I am in a city with a major center. They are generally happy there and make great pay. Good luck whatever you decide.

Only you can figure this out...

If you join JPMC, you also might inquire whether there's any flexibility on the 3 day a week requirement -- assuming your immediate supervisor agrees. But you also might want to tie that request to a six month performance review (after you've excelled during that period). Best of luck and let us know how it goes. You answered your own question. You are at present the sole caretaker of a 2 year old child which means that the requirement to be in office would be a hardship at present and that you would prefer at present to do all work in a WFH position. You can’t change the job requirement for the preferential job at present ( that in office requirement) if you are only available for WFH especially since your present work life balance includes your full caretaker duties commitment to your 2 year old. Keep yourself active working but limit your choices for job opportunities to WFH positions opportunities and don’t try to force the offers that require partial in office work to adapt that specific position but rather let them know that if they do have fully WFH positions you would be interested . I think you are looking at the pay differences between the two options and want the position with the higher pay but without the in office requirement. Sometimes you have to compromise for the best option now. Good luck

Congratulations. What a great dilemma to have!

Both are great organizations, and depending on what your career is, one may do more for your resume long-term. In general though, it all depends on your priorities and only you can decide.

I would do the math on the 2 days vs. 3 days. How much of an inconvenience does 3 days in offer cost you? Does the extra in salary cover the financial cost?

I would then look at other pros/cons. Make a 2-column list for each and compare to what's most important for you.

Finally, let us know what you decide!
