Fortunately I don't have an admin, if I did I would have been clueless.

Don't hold it against your boss if they "forgot"--they may not be aware that it's a thing. I mean, how does one know these things, anyway?

Hopefully they treat you well every day!

Everyday on the calendar is a "special day" or some month designated for a cause anymore.

I didn't know about yesterday administrative day, sadly not aware or probably forgot. Cannot keep up and don't try unless specifically friends, family, mother's, father's day or the standard Christmas, Thanksgiving, birthdays of CLOSE people.

Success now is RETAINING my ROLE, administrative asst or not. I can care less about flowers and candy. Pretty much: if I wasn't fired or laid off, I was successful.

These self created holidays really shouldn't be taken seriously. It's like a participation trophy.

I take any reason to celebrate someone seriously and to heart. Life is too short.

True, but sometimes people have a tremendous load and the lack of celebration doesn't illustrate lack of caring. I'd rather people be decent overall daily than treating me like crap except on a holiday

My ex used to abuse me constantly but on our anniversary (not many!) I was the love of his life.

    Treatment matters DAILY

Apples and Oranges. Celebrating someone a little extra special doesn't have anything to do with the day to day respect and care you show people in general. It's not a choice of either or.

Need a holiday created for that? Daily kindness and appreciation should be a lifestyle not an event.

It's not like a participation trophy at all. Admins do a lot of behind the scenes work who make their bosses look good. This group is extremely under appreciated and underpaid. T

Again, shouldn't take a holiday that people bank on that is created. Ex: Sweetest Day, not all states even knows what that is, when it is or why. Be a part of living a celebratory life and not relying on a calendar.

Our team took our admin out to a fancy lunch and gifted them with a spa day certificate and flowers. We let her leave 1/2 say Wednesday.

    She's the best.

Since I used to be an Admin, but now I am in a different supervisory role, I always take up a collection from my team and try to find something "personal" gift-wise with a nice card everyone has signed. Unfortunately this year time got away from me, but both of mine still got a little cash (and card) to treat themselves.

Accountant here: supervisor took my team out lunch the other day- no reason other simply to be nice.

It was NOT a holiday - we are not administrative assistants.

My point: be thankful for your staff/group IRREGARDLESS of a "holiday".

    This lunch was NOT planned.
