I am in my 50s and I have been the owner of a small family business for the last 10 years due to unfortunate circumstances I need to start applying for positions and I need to upgrade my résumé. What is your best advice as to where to start on making a great resume any thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated. I know AI filters resumes for many companies now. I have read some great articles here, but it’s hard for me to go back and find the information. thank you!

    Use ChapGPT to help you.

Definitely use chat gpt for your resume and list measurable accomplishments i.e streamlined processes reducing 25% bottlenecks or created X goal that drove sales 25% in 1.5 years.

If you're at a loss of where to begin prompt chatgpt
    1. to ask you a series of questions in an effort to create a resume that will get you hired and showcase your skills. (You probably wear many hats in this small business and those are marketable skills.)
    2. Ask chatgpt to provide you a list of jobs that would be suitable.
    3. Ask chat gpt to be your coach and provide mock up questions as well encouragement through the process.
    4. Ask chatgpt for your market value based on those responses. Then research each role's market value. Use both when negotiating salary after receiving an offer.

do you have MS Word? There are so many templates that are easy to use . Google ‘skills based resume’ and take your cues from there

And don’t use chat gpt. It’s so annoying to read … officious sounding but without authority. Be you!!you ran damn small business. You’re a bad ass

(Assuming you are in the US) Check your local libraries, especially your reference librarians. They often will have resources available, and the library may have classes or workshops around building resumes, working on current computer programs (if you're not familiar) as well as job fairs and even support groups for job searchers. Also, make sure to contact your state/local workforce development office. They usually have a lot of resources, equipment and folks who can help navigate a lot of this. They are a great resource.
