I work for a private college in an academic support role running a tutoring center. I have been working as an adjunct instructor at this school for the last few semesters on top of my full-time job in order to increase my wages.
I began working for this institution three years ago at a below market wage. We have not had any opportunities for raises due to our reduced student population. My supervisor wants me to stop working as an adjunct because it "takes your energy away from your regular job."
I do all of my class prep early in the mornings or in the evenings at home. I continue to work at least 40 hours a week in my regular job.
I will be meeting with my supervisor later next week to discuss this issue. If she will not approve my work as a adjunct professor in the future, I will have to find teaching opportunities elsewhere or find a new job.
Does anyone have any suggestions for how I explain this situation to her kindly without getting upset? I worked as a full-time instructor at a large public university previously, so I love to teach and do it very well.
Thank you.
