I applied for a Marketing Director at a company.

I applied for a Marketing Director at a company. On LinkedIn, I found out who the VP is for that team. Would it be worth reaching out to him to introduce myself to stand out from other candidates or is that crossing the line? There are already 100 applicants so while I've been a Marketing Director at another company, I'm seeking a way to stand out from my competition. I'd appreciate your advice!

I see no issue with this if you know that VP is the hiring manager

Thank you and should I try email or LinkedIn? I know the handle as I've worked for the company early in my career but LI only provides 200 characters and that's doesn't give a lot of space to introduce myself and what I can offer the company? The other issue, will she accept my connection request if she doesn't know me? Thank you for your help! I want this role and want to stand out from the competition.

Don't worry about what ifs, put yourself out there. I am a director and was hiring for a role and took every message on linkedin seriously. Not everyone might, so don't worry if you don't hear back (it's them not you), good on you for taking initiative, it's a skill many people need more of.

Would you want someone on your team with the passion, drive, and courage to reach out and express their interest?? Of course! We all would.

Make the boldest moves you can to show your interest and express how your skills and experience are exactly what they need.

    Good luck. Cheering you on!

PS. I know people who have secured jobs with this bold move. :)
