Hi everyone, I work at a nonprofit that is faith based.

Hi everyone, I work at a nonprofit that is faith based. However, we recently had to get a new director. At our monthly meeting the director has been handing out materials that have Bible verses etc. I am religious but I feel like a boss should not be putting this out .

If an organization is faith based that's part of the deal. I taught at a faith based school and we had to meet for morning prayers and read Bible verses that were passed around.

Well given the nature of the non-profit, I think it is in the DNA of the company.

If you have misgivings, then you'll need to find a non-religious company to work for.

I would encourage you to dig a little deeper about why this makes you uncomfortable. Is this a normal part of adapting to change? Is there something about the nature of the Bible verses that makes you uncomfortable - maybe are they inconsistent with your belief systems (e.g. judgmental about people or behaviors)? Are there other things about this director that you dislike, and this is the thing that is easiest to zero in on? I can see how any of those things might make me uncomfortable in the right/wrong situation, so I can empathize if that's where you are. Wishing you the best and a clear path forward.

I think you can parse this out in different ways. If there is simply a verse or short passage on the agenda, you can choose to take it as inspiration and move on--understanding that this could be part of the DNA of the organization. If the new director is handing out tracts to try to challenge/ change your beliefs that is more problematic since there are vastly different ways to be Christian. If the director expects homogeneity of theology and a specific understanding of the Bible, or expects you to accept one specific statement of belief, that intrudes upon your own religious freedom. (Many institutions that have a specific religious doctrine will ask employees to sign a statement of belief when they are hired. )

If you feel like the theology will make others uncomfortable, exclude them, affect performance reviews or affect donor relationships, I would contact the board to make sure the board is comfortable with the theological shift.

it might help if you stepped back and looked at what your question is.

I work for a faith based organization. My boss hands out material that has bible verse on them. I think is not right.

Do you see the issue? The organization has built themselves on a principal of faith, they cannot ignore it nor should they.

If you are at a faith-based organization, there is nothing unusual about that. For a time (just over a year), I worked at a religious (catholic) nonprofit. As part of our monthly meeting, we each took turns (a different person each month) kicking off the meeting with a prayer. As someone who is not really religious, this was a bit challenging for me, but I went along with it.

What? Why wouldn't they if they are faith based? Also, being religious doesn't mean you're all in, aka a believer. This sounds like a 'you' thing to figure out. I would expect at minimum bible verses to be handed out.
