Navigating burn out and stress
I'm seeing a lot of posts within the community about feeling burnt out, stressed, defeated. I hear you! It's tough between the demands of work, the stresses of life, layoffs, a challenging job market and everything else going on in the world and our personal lives.
Years ago I listened to a podcast (my apologies in advance that I don't know the name of the podcast or the specific episode) that shared some great advice on self care that I wanted to pass along to this community incase it was helpful:
Identify 5 self care acts that you can do and that truly help you relax, destress, reenergize you, etc. whatever is most helpful for you and how you define self care.
2 of those 5 should be pretty easy things that you can do on a daily basis. It doesn't mean you need to do both everyday but it gives you options and allows you to implement smaller habits to support your overall wellness and self care.
2 more self care acts should be things you can do on a monthly or quarterly basis. These may be more time consuming things or things that just make sense to spread out a bit more.
and the 5th act should be something that is bigger and done bi-annually or annually.
Ultimately, you can determine what these things are and what works for you but I found it was helpful mostly to determine what my 2 daily things would be to help me create more consistent self care - and I'll add that they've changed over the years!
I'll add a few of the things that have been on my lists over the years:
Daily: walking, journaling, meditation, drinking water
Monthly/quarterly: going to see live music, scheduling time with friends, hiking, painting
If you have other suggestions for navigating burn out or implementing more self care that the community could benefit from it would be great to see additional suggestion in the comments!
