I work under a manager who is untrustworthy and talks about staff behind their backs and I am sure she talks about me as well because this is how she operates. I have been searching for a year and still not finding a position. Is the job market this bad? I am so worn out and defeated in this role.

Good advice, here agreed. Now is the time to dig deep. Explore what you are looking for and then get after it if you can. What opportunities are out there in your current position, and can you move out from under your current manager? Good luck, keep your chin up.

Gossip can actually strengthen social bonds. There was a wonderful show on Netflix I think about the blue zones. It is about people living longer and having a social circle, yes, where people gossiped helped them. However, gossip that is hurtful is not good, and gossip with a higher level at work is NEVER good nor is it professional. I say this when mine starts, and know I'm southern so it comes across kind of light hearted, I don't know about all that, but can we talk about ... give a topic. I love the other poster's suggestions to show empathy. I've done this and the director sort of looks down like I'm no use to them. I also talk fast and get myself out of situations/conversations by oh, gotta go, running late to a meeting! Just don't get involved. Leave the gossip with your close friends as we say here in our friend group, oh do tell. But it isn't hurtful to hear, it's hurtful to hurt others.

The job market is rough but there are jobs out there. I just feel every industry is going through a massive AI/automation adoption right now (inserts eye rolls lol). There's also a lot of fearmongering going on about "AI taking jobs" and while a fraction of that might be true, a lot of it is NOT.

What's taking peoples' jobs is poor management decisions that driving up the costs to keep up with AI adoption. A lot of companies are recognizing inadequacies with their business model, processes, products/services and systems, therefore, the only way to keep costs down and keep up with the madness is to cut human talent (rant over lol).

AI has not helped anyone change their garbage disposal yet nor has it figured out how to clean my whole house without me lifting a finger. LOL

The point is, keep looking and stay open to learning new skills that will help enhance your resume and expertise.

I agree! And AI and all this awesome technology the world has, cannot for the life of them really get a Yeti and dissect it. Seems weird to me that everyone is worried about AI, seem to rely on it, but can't seem to get that humans are behind everything we do. Systems are only good if they are used, and a lot of companies want to schuz up their systems, but can't use them or won't use them. Makes no sense to me.
