Out of office message -Vacation -Suggestions?

Out of office message -Vacation -Suggestions?

Taking a vaca....will let the owner of the consulting firm for which I employed know that I will have an OOO message. I am anticipating she will be the backup. She knows my loyalty... I do not want to get caught up in answering emails.

Would you mention to her you will not be answering emails or assume she knows. Would you offer: If its critical send me a text and I will get back to you?

Also looking for suggestions for OOO message:

How does this sound? Want it to be professional but not harsh.

Hello, I will be on vacation from xxx to xxx. If you have a time sensitive concern, please contact xxx at xxx.com or

xxx-xxx-xxxx. I will respond to emails upon my return on xxx,

Thank you xxxx

First of all, don't state you will be on vacation. Say you will be "out of the office, and unable to respond until [date]." If someone needs something urgent, you can also indicate to whom they should refer the matter in your absence. Put a similar message on your voicemail. If you want to take the calls of certain individuals during that time, privately notify them before you leave on the best way to do that. Let them know you do not intend to take other business calls during that time. That way you don't get your private and personal time interrupted. Have a wonderful time!!!

Why should I not state I will be on vacation? Thank you for your suggestions!

I am not the same person to whom you are replying, but one reason I can think of is that anyone who calls, including the criminal element, could find out where you live and vandalize or burglarize your home while you are gone. Most of us don't think that way, but sometimes this happens, and with the amount of information available via the internet, I would be careful. Also "out of the office and unable to respond" is a standard professional line that makes you sound more knowledgeable.

    Agree... thank you!

As someone stated, I suggest this for safety, because everyone who sends you an email (even junk and personal mail if you give your business email to casual contacts) will get the message that implies you are out of town. That leaves your home vulnerable to anyone who knows where you live. With this, you could be on a "stay-cation" or a locally hosted conference or other business "stuff" that will have you tied up and unavailable to respond. Your location and purpose stay confidential.
