My company, a small healthcare consulting firm, requires we all record all our passwords in a program called 1Password. I’ve never worked for someplace that requires this until now. Is this common? Pros/cons? There’s no written policy, just a verbal directive.

1password works like keychain on apple. Only you can see it the passwords.

This is fairly common. Just be careful because it will grab your personal passwords and if you lose access to that account or that laptop, you could lose personal passwords as well.

My work requires a similar tool and it also sends password update reminders, so I am sure it is a security thing.

Yes, we are a global company and require this.

    Very common.

I love 1Password! it is so much more helpful than keeping everything in a google sheet or excel. It takes a little bit of time to sign up but once you do it, its so worth it!

I've worked a few orgs that require that all business passwords are stored in a password keeper (be that 1Password or LastPass or similiar).

I don't see a reason to not use the tool that I've been asked to use* (for the software that the company is paying for), but perhaps I'm missing something.

I wouldn't store any personal passwords (of course) or passwords for software that I use for work that I pay for.

*There are lots of reasons why cloud-based password keepers are not the panacea they claim to be, but if a company that I work for wants me to use that tool, I'm going to use it.
