Hi everyone,

Hi everyone,

I graduated in 2023 in electronics and communication engineering i have been trying to land a job since then i also have coding skills in python and sql. During this time, I have been actively upskilling and searching for other job opportunities, but haven't had any success. After multiple rejections, I'm on the verge of depression. Can anyone guide me on the right way to land a job? I'm in desperate need for a job right now.

Contact your school's career services office. They can provide you with resume writing help, career counseling, and job notices. If there are skills/certifications you need to get the job you want, get those too. If you did any internships in school, connect with those people and see if they're hiring. Also contact any professors or classmates you had good relationships with to see if they know of any open positions. Go to every job/career fair you can to get your resume out there. In the meantime, if you need to take a survival job (paying bills but not going to help your career advancement), do so. It helps to have money coming in and something else to focus on while you're looking for a job in your field.

Contact your alma mater's career center. As another poster mentioned, they can provide resume assistance and coaching. There may be a small fee, but do call them and find out. If you are new to IT, consider taking on call center jobs to get your foot in the door. I was an IT recruiter for a long time and am now in career services in higher ed. Make sure you go to any job fairs that allow alums to attend. The more active you are in your career center's offerings the more success you will achieve. Look at Best Buy, or Geek Squad if they are still in business. It's a great jumping off point for many who struggle finding IT work. If you completed an internship, add that to your resume. If you did not, seek internships to get experience and add to your resume as well. Good luck to you!

This article was posted on FGB. https://artoffindingwork.substack.com/p/hiring-is-a-process-of-elimination?r=4s382&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&triedRedirect=true . Read through the article and see how you match up / make changes as needed. You may also want to see if there are free or low cost events that you can network at.

While I understand your depressed feelings, I will remind you the same thing my network has reminded me. The market for educated and experienced workers is very very difficult. The worst it's been in decades.....if not ever. Don't believe the media. The reality is very different.

So don't take the lack of response personal (I know that's easier said than done). There is only so much you can take responsibility for. The rest is sadly just the reality of the economy. I'm told companies are waiting until after the election to figure out their grouth strategies and hire plans.

Let's hope the next few couple of months go by quickly.

You stated you are trying to get a role in the area of your degree, but have you tried for an entry level position and a company you are interested in and then take the opportunity to skill up and move up?

Sometimes, it is a matter of getting a foot in the door to get where you want to go.

Wow! this one appears to be relatively simple. Having been a practicing EE for several years, you have a massive resource that you should have utilized from the start. That resource is IEEE.ORG! I ran a large IEEE Council in LA for several years. IEEE is loaded with money and resources for EEs to find jobs and employers. The thing for you to do is attend a local chapter meeting and they will open doors for you. Here is a special affinity group to check out. https://www.ieee.org/membership/women/index.html
