Last year before retirement.

Last year before retirement.

i want to enjoy this last year and add value. What are some suggestions to ensure this last year is a successful and productive year ? My concern is everyone knows I’m wrapping my career up and so I’m being shut out of impactful project work as that work is being shared with those still trying to advance further in their career.

Share your knowledge, mentor if there is an opportunity to do so.
Document your role and responsibilities for the next person in your position. Clean up your desk. Make it easy for folks to find your work both online and in your personal folders.

Be mindful of what's on everyone's plates and support or pitch in when the opportunity arises.

Finally understand your value and focus there.

I took a lateral move from a manager role to a "specialist" (created specifically for this purpose) role my last year before I retired. I spent the time mentoring and training my replacement, and other employees, and supervising interns.

That's a lovely idea! I'm going to make a note of that approach to implement when it's my turn.
