I am 22 year old and still pursuing my masters, I have recently had interest in event planning but I am not able to find any jobs related to that, in order to gain my work experience.

    Event planning, hospitality, etc jobs are suffering right now due to the economy.

    Work for any off site caterer for experience, put in the grunt work and connect with them on that level. Then grow from there. If you can't understand the true work it takes I feel you will miss an integral piece of the industry. Or connect with a hotel and their waitstaff for events. Often people think they shouldn't have to start there, but the BEST ones do. IMO

    I suggest that you volunteer at a nonprofit whose mission you're passionate about. This can be a win-win because nonprofits often need help with events, you can attend the events for free, and you can network with people there (org employees, other volunteers, and attendees). And don't forget, you can put it on your resume!
