Hey y’all,

Hey y’all,

I’m at a stage where I really want to level up in life—career-wise and personally. I’ve been thinking a lot about going back to school or getting some kind of certification, but I’m not totally sure what direction to take. I want something that’ll actually help me build a stable career and open up new opportunities, not just take up time and money. Right now I’m torn between programs like occupational therapy assistant, physical therapy, or even something in the business/creative space. I know I need to move forward, but I’m feeling stuck trying to figure out what’s realistic and still aligns with my long-term goals. If you’ve been in this kind of spot trying to make smart career moves while also figuring out how to grow and do what you love how did you decide what path was right for you? Would really appreciate any advice or personal stories

You said "back to school." Have you started or graduated from a college or vocational school? If so, one of the best resources you have is your school's career center. They are invested in ensuring their students and alumni get good jobs and career advice because it helps sell their programs.

Unless you are very clear on what degree you want to get and how it will benefit you - I think experience is much more valuable than any kind of course etc.

Consider working backwards : What are your long term goals? What is your skills gap to get there ? What role would help you take a step forward?

Are you degreed or want to continue what you started? If you seek work in an industry you’re not sure about visit you career center on campus. Also use the Occupational Outlook handbook online to explore your interests and jobs that reflect it. If interested in any of the occupations you listed, find those who do this for a living and ask they mentor you or at least allow you to meet and ask questions about the job. And find a job working in the industry to expose you. It sounds like you are exploring careers so ask those in them about theirs that align with your interests.

Hi thank you for your response, I graduate next spring in recreational therapy and wanted to continue in a similar field and thank you for your advice.
