I doubt that you are doing anything wrong. Seeking employment is hard. Are you constantly worrying about not getting a job? This can wear you down.

Instead, view this as a time to center and focus on yourself. Try to revive your passion by thinking about what you wanted when you were younger. Is this still a goal? If not think about tasks you enjoy doing (marketing, accounting, management) and view some training videos online.

You will appreciate this time when you return to work.

Hi Aaliyah, thanks for sharing! You're not doing anything wrong. Please don’t confuse a tough job market with a lack of ability. Your perseverance thus far goes to show how strong and resilient you are. Here's what we can do:

    1. Take a mini-break. Even 2-3 days of intentionally stepping back from crafting resumes and job board doomscrolling will help you breathe a bit and prevent further burnout. Your heart and brain will thank you for the much-needed reset!
    2. Get a new perspective on your application materials. Sometimes we get too in the weeds with our resume or cover letter, especially when you've been on the job hunt for a while. Having a friend or someone from the industry take a fresh look at your resume can surface small changes that make a big impact!

Let me know how it goes!

    We're all rooting for you.

I want you to know that you aren’t alone. I’ve been looking for a job since December while I was still employed but then I was laid off in February. I spend days submitting applications and I know how exhausting and discouraging it is because it appears fruitless. The job market is very tough right now so give yourself grace.

i believe that the right position will come , be patient. Good things take time

We don't talk about the mental side of job searching enough! It can be frustrating, overwhelming and can have you questioning yourself. I would take a step back and approach it from the perspective of an outsider as much as you can. Do you have a tracking process where you can see the data? This will help remove the emotional side (at least it does for me). If 90% of your jobs are being applied to through job boards, then look into doing more networking/connecting, if your resume is landing you interviews then look into doing mock interviews or if you aren't getting any callbacks from your resume then people look over your resume (find people with HR/recruiting backgrounds and people in the industry you are applying to). You've got this and good luck to you!

The Job Market sucks. Sorry but it's the worst time to be job searching.

Hang in there. This can't last forever. We just have to wait out the panic from the stock markets. Businesses are putting hiring on hold until things calm down I think.

What are you doing outside of looking for work? I found when I was unemployed volunteering my time helped my mental health.

    So true!!

You are probably doing nothing wrong . The job market is just tough right now . I was out of full time work( had several part time jobs)for exactly 1 year.

I like where one comment said to do something in addition to looking for work that makes you happy. It is a strange and tough world we are in right now. I remember when I went through a tough spell in trying to find work … feeling like I couldn’t get arrested if I tried! I then started learning yoga and I also learned to do some really complex crochet. I was so proud of myself that my confidence shone through and I was calmer and more creative in waiting for the right opportunity. People were naturally attracted to this energy. Plus the yoga helped my physical appearance and boy did I feel stronger! So your new job is looking for work and learning a skill that you just love! Enjoy.

Burnout while job hunting is brutal, and honestly I don’t think enough people talk about it properly. Hustle culture just tells you to “push through” and that’s rubbish. In Australia, cost of living stress makes it worse. Sometimes you need a mental breather that isn’t another self-help article. I’ve used casinonic casino, an Australian online casino with mobile pokies and table games, just to reset for half an hour. Not escapism forever, just enough to breathe again.
