Hello Community!

I hope everyone is having a great day. I wanted to make everyone aware of the lengths that scammers will go through, just to get your personal information. I was on LinkedIn and a lady's post popped up in my feed. She looked very professional. She put up a survey, asking about job searching then she said, to connect with her, because she helps people find jobs. When I looked at her profile, it did not say that her occupation was a recruiter, nor was she verified (meaning she was not verified through LinkedIn- they put a checkmark by your name, if you've completed this step) to prove that she actually works, where she says she does.

Her resume stated that she was an Engineer at some oil company in South America? I requested to connect with her and she asked, what salary was I looking for. I inquired about why she wasn't verified and she skipped over this question. Then she asked me, to send her my resume, so she could send me a list of jobs. I asked, what recruiting agency, did she work for? She took a little time to respond and then sent me a long explanation, that she is the bridge between employers and the potential employee. The explanation seemed AI generated because it was very long and the grammar was a little too perfect. She claimed, that she didn't work for an agency. I thought.... even if she was self employed, she would have to have a business name and a tax ID number. She never explained why she wasn't verified either. She has to get paid somehow for this service, of finding candidates for employers.

I got a bad feeling and did not, repeat..... I did not send her my resume. I messaged her, that I didn't feel comfortable sharing my resume and I never heard anything else from her. I unfollowed her and removed her from my connections. Scammers look for any personal information on your resume, email address, home address and phone number. For all I know, the profile could've been fake and I was one step away from having my information used on the dark web. Please be careful and cautious, when something sounds too good to be true..... it usually isn't good.

    Report her to LinkedIn too!

To report fraud on LinkedIn, navigate to the profile, job, or content you believe is fraudulent and look for the "More" icon (three dots) to find the "Report" or "Report/Block" option. Select the most appropriate reason for the report, such as "Fake Account," "Impersonating," or "Inaccurate Information," and provide additional details as requested before submitting. LinkedIn will review the report, and the reporter's identity remains anonymous

Yes - unfortunately there are way too many scammers preying on jobseekers these days. Please be careful out there.

Glad you trusted your instincts. It sounds like the person borrowed/stole a real LinkedIn profile to scam people. I've had people claim to be recruiters for legit companies, but the jobs aren't listed on the company website. There are so many scams, fake recruiters, and fake listings out there it's hard to keep up. When you add in AI (when you respond to ads or do an interview) to the mix, it just makes things worse. Everyone needs to be very careful to not get scammed during the job hunt.

This is just creepy. Thank you for sharing this. I did fall for a scammer last year. Like, I didn't have enough anxiety to search for jobs, and I had to deal with the self-judgmental, self-blaming chatter in my brain. It can happen to anyone.

I am glad you listened to your gut. These scammers make my blood boil.

I hope someone reported her to Linkedin.
