Advice needed - mask during job interview?

I've been actively pursuing employment for a while, and this is the first on-site interview I've been selected for since the start of the pandemic. I'm from MA and things are reopening, but I still don't feel 100% comfortable meeting anyone in person without knowing it'll definitely be safe. How can I go about ensuring it'll be a safe meeting without offending/losing my chance?

Very important to comply with your local mandates at this time as that shows you're going to follow expectations at the office as well. I agree with the above, find out what the current company policy is because you would expect to follow that during any meetings, interview or otherwise. But follow the interviewer's lead and be prepared for having to wear it and maybe having to remove it (like if they have you across a long desk for social distancing).

Definitely find out ahead of time what their rules are and how the employees are complying!! And I 100% agree with Bella: Respect and kindness, if you start it, they can't help but return it! And if they don't, that tells you a lot about them, too now, doesn't it?

Yes, definitely! Interviewing is a two-way street!

Absolutely wear a mask into the interview, then ask the interviewer what they prefer during the interview. This is such unprecedented times, that there is no clear cut way to address. But being respectful and kind is a good way to start!

Ask your contact what their current rules for employees are. It shows foresight and gives you a sense of how they're protecting their employees.

Yes wearing mask would indeed be safer. But I think when you're speaking, you need to remove it for clarity. I believe you're practicing social- distancing too. And don't forget your sanitizer! :-)

I would absolutely wear a mask to the job interview. If you feel good about it and you're appropriately distanced, you can pull your mask down and smile when you first say hello, then replace it. Don't be bashful about using hand sanitizer if you need to. Spray your suit with rubbing alcohol when you get home if you feel like you need to. (It's safe--theater costumes get sprayed with vodka to de-stink them.) You can also ask during the interview what the company is doing to keep employees safe during the pandemic. If they balk, you might not want to work there anyway.

Thank you, Summer! That's a good point. I have to remember interviewing is a 2-way street :)

Summer, I am very curious how you know theater costumes get sprayed with vodka!

Definitely wear a mask! As a current employee, we're required to wear masks while on site, and they may check your temp as well.

That's great to hear! I'd rather be safe and I hope they take my temperature.
