The remote work thing is very hit or miss, and it's moving more to the miss side - especially in red states. We're allowed to work hybrid schedules, but expected to be in the office 3 days/week.

I have one day remote and 4 days in office. It depends on your department and what they feel they need. Some areas have everyone in every day, especially for student focused offices. Some offices only require everyone in for certain days or for big meetings. Fully remote is very rare, as most departments have shifted back to full time in office or a hybrid 1-2 days remote.

I did a work/study program at a school with more than 50% remote students, so my job was remote. Like others have said, it depends on the department and function. I worked with the advising staff and did everything by phone, so my job was remote. MS Teams provided our staff meetings and in-office-type "chat." By the time I graduated, most advising staff had to come in three days a week if they lived within 50 miles. My boss was a high performer and responsible for an elderly mother who was chronically ill, so she was granted an exemption from the in-office mandate.
