Hi. I am fairly new here. I am a consultant who works contract and it seems I am at a standstill with no work. I work remote and it seems that that trend is moving towards hybrid and FT jobs now. Am I wrong?

There have been trends to bring workers onsite for awhile now. Most give a lack of productivity reason for bringing people back. It may be true for new employees who are not familiar with the culture or working with others. People who have worked remote for awhile may be just as productive as their peers (they learned how to be productive from home). Unfortunately, you also have people like the Wells Fargo staff who tried to cheat the system https://www.forbes.com/sites/jackkelly/2024/06/18/wells-fargo-fires-mouse-jigglers-taking-aim-at-fake-work-and-other-trends/. It could be a lack of trust and a feeling that synergy from in person interaction is not there.

Seems like more than a trend.

Hello and welcome to the FGB family, Linda!

The Covid crisis demonstrated people are quite capable of working from home. Nonetheless, when things began to return to some sense or normalcy, many companies insisted employees return.

Many have settled on the hybrid environment, a situation I support wholeheartedly. There are benefits to WFH. There are benefits to being in the office. I agree with the poster than allowing newer employees to WFH can be a concern. Many companies (including the one I work for) will bring new people into the office for a few weeks at least and then they can work from home.

If you find yourself wanting to WFH, be prepared to defend why. You should also be prepared for a job that will still require you to go into to office at least to some extent.

Definitely more of a hybrid workforce as the companies have empty real estate that they're still paying for. Back to work in office, it's going to move to really back to specific industries and tenure in those roles, it will become less offered opportunities. Back to office is here.
