I don't think so unless the gap is so long that it renders your experience or skills out of date or behind the rest of the candidates.

It’s a gap of a year, but all of my skills are up to date. I can do almost anything involving education and nonprofit work.

In today's society, I wouldn't worry too much about a layoff gap because you can fill it with a part time volunteer role or studying or something to show that you were actively keeping your skills sharp during that time.

Now in today's *market* it's not about the gap but rather about experience and how much you state you accomplished in your time at your workplaces and community involvement volunteer roles.

If it is a medical-leave gap for yourself or someone else. You may want to add a line like "caregiver" or "sabbatical". Definitely try to take some online courses or online volunteer work if possible.

An ex colleague had travelled the world after a hefty lay off package and her headliner was something about being back from travelling the world to bring her worldly experiences in a meaningful and impactful way to society.
