I recently applied for an internal position at my company.

I recently applied for an internal position at my company. It would be a lateral move, but in a department I am hoping to break in to. After I applied, another job on that same team opened that would be a promotion and I definitely qualify. I was nervous in how to handle in my interview for the original job and when asked I said I was interested and would love to be on their team in whatever capacity they see fit. Now I feel like I undersold myself. I followed up about the position in my thank you email and expressed my interest more confidentially. I’m replaying what I should have said in my head. Any advice on how to handle in my next conversation?

Express your interest in the new role and apply there as well. The conversation should be broad and open to discussion as you can see yourself on the team period.

I think you expressed/worded your interest and flexibility perfectly. You followed up after your initial interview, you showed you're willing to assist in any capacity where it is needed. Coming off overly enthusiastic could, depending on the company/department/position could backfire. If it's been more than 5 business days and you still haven't heard back, send another follow email but leave it at that is my suggestion.
