I am currently furloughed at my job and this is the third time in as many years I have been either laid off or furloughed due to financial reasons of the company. Really frustrated and just want a stable position at a stable company. Even when I ask about the finances of the company I feel like I am given a line that has not been the truth to get my in the door.

That sounds sketchy. Definitely look for a new job.

That is so frustrating! I was laid off twice in one year and I finally went to state government and feel a lot safer here. The paycut hurt me, but not all state jobs are low paying, so maybe that could be an option for you? Hang in there!

    I agree with you completely!

I experienced being laid off and it was due to the financial situation of the company. If leadership/owners remain the same and they do not share how they have restructured to strengthen the company I would look at that as a red flag! The fact that you have gone thru this 3 times it is clear you will need to find another job if your goal is stability!

There’s no such thing as a stable job anymore and this has been the case for awhile. The only people ho could kind of say that is government employees and, well, look where they are. My advice would to be to get to where you can get and save as much as you can for the not so stable times.

Wishing you the best in your next position. I was recently released from duty after the company faced financial difficulty. I can only imagine how frustrating it is the third time over.

Me too Megan! I'm looking for a full-time permanent position after being laid off twice in just the last six months. My most recent layoff just occured in February of this year-a month earlier than our contract was supposed to end.

The role of research about a companies finances is on you. There are many public tools to use that can help you to find out how well funded a company is. If they are public that information is readily available. If they are small family owned and private then not. Take the time to look into who has left the company via linkedin and reach out for insider information about their experiences there. Use tools like blind, linkedin, glassdoor and crunchbase if they are listed in any of these. Stability is something that is a bit elusive these days because even the most stable workplaces can reorg or lay off as their businesses shift and change. A bit worrisome that you think folks are lying to you, please lose that thinking because it won't help your search. If you suspect you are getting information that is not quite right then fact check it yourself through others. Good luck.

    Time to go.

I wish you the best of luck. It seems like the job market really stinks right now. So maybe just keep looking while you still have a job, and don't forget that if you're furloughed you can apply for unemployment (I know, it doesn't make up for lost wages, but it's something!) and hold out for the RIGHT spot.
